Heroes Conquest Featured on Channel 4 News
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB)- A new tournament rolled into Grand Island this weekend with a special theme. RMN Events brought their Heroes Conquest competition for kids in kindergarten to middle school. It featured Marvel heroes and gear as part of a licensing partnership with Marvel Entertainment. The organizers said they wanted to offer more wrestling tournament options with a fun twist.
“We thought that would bring a little bit more uniqueness to the event and it's not everyday you see Marvel characters at youth sporting events,” CEO Ed Gutierrez said. “I'm sure it happens, it's just in wrestling I don't know if it's ever happened.”
Wrestlers earned points in their events and each champion was given medals and Marvel character trophies. With the big prize of the elusive gauntlet given at the big finale.
Gutierrez said in the Midwest it can be hard to find places to wrestle all year for the younger age groups. His own sons were faced with the issue in Colorado which is why they started their business 21 years ago.
“Now everybody seems to wrestle year round and when that happens of course you've got to find tournaments that you like, that you trust, and you can come and get some good matches in,” Gutierrez said.
He said about 500 people registered for the tournament. Which is one of the best turn outs for a first year event..
