 John’s Gospel 4:21-26

21 Jesus said to her, “Woman believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22 “You worship what you do not know, we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews.

23 “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is to

 seeking such to worship Him.

24 “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.”

26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

Ben’s comments:

Jesus directly addresses the need to worship God in truth.v23 The Samaritans had mixed many false ideas with truth about God. Jesus is not going to sift thru all those details now. His focus is to know & honor God with our spirit. To be truthful about Him & ourselves.v23-24. The woman knows about the promised Messiah.v25

So Jesus reveals that He is that Messiah.v26.

The woman has stayed thru this conversation which now will be interrupted. The question is, will she leave knowing & believing the truth about who Jesus is? Or will this conversation be just another experience in her life that has ended in disappointment, like man after man has left her empty. Will she see a difference in Jesus?

Jesus has directly addressed that what she has been seeking, can’t be found in men. Jesus has promised eternal life & therefore eternal satisfaction.v10

There are many pleasures in this world, given by God, for us to enjoy, but non satisfy like our Creator does.

Where are you searching for lasting satisfaction? It is only found in God & His Son.
